Born of pain.
Of love — for my children.
And from a deep, aching wish for peace.

In 1980, Saddam Hussein, without warning,
unleashed a brutal war upon Iran.
Eight years of violence.
I was a child — trapped between two dictators, two demons.
We, the simple people,
had to suffer, had to lose.
It was unbearable.

Decades later —
history repeats itself.

We were in Iran with our children,
to say goodbye to my beloved father —
when suddenly, Israeli jets roared above Tehran.
War. Again.

My children saw
what I once saw as a child.
And I couldn’t protect them.

After a painful escape across the border,
we reached Munich.
One day later, walking by the Isar,
the first line of this song came to me.
I couldn’t stop —
until it was done.

This song became my therapy.
Music was my way to heal.

But the war is not over.
Not in Iran.
Not in Ukraine.
Not in Yemen.
Not in Sudan.

And again — it is the innocent who pay,
most of all, the children.

This is not our war.
This is the war of demons.
We are human.

Let us never forget
what Saadi wrote in the 12th century:

“The children of Adam are limbs of one body,
created from a single essence.
When one limb is struck with pain,
the others suffer too.
And if you show no care for this pain —
you do not deserve to be called human.”
